Scorpion

I remember sometime in Vietnam, I got a scorpion preserved in amber plastic and sold as paper weight. Since I was so timid in going out to shoot some insects, I instead opted to shoot the paper weight scorpion. :)

WaterBug for Sale

My Beautiful (suay mak) Thai friend sent me a picture (taken thru her iphone) and ask her permission to post it in iNsectoo. These are male water-bugs mostly found in rice paddies. Only male ones are being sold because of their sweeter smell. Female water-bugs does not smell nice but those with eggs are used to be made into a paste. They are sold at 20 Baht a piece. They are eaten by dipping it in a paste or a spicy sauce and with plain white rice.

There is a story behind the male water-bug. The man is selling girls as prostitutes and the money he takes it only for himself. They were called ‘Mang Da’ -  a slang word for ‘Bad Man’. :)

Black & Gold Bug

My shot maybe is not as sharp as I would like it to be but certainly it was not the bugs fault. He deserves to be a part of my iNsectoo page for taking a pause and pose for my shaky hands on camera. :)

Bug on the Edge

Now i got to shoot side view of  him. He’s probably thinking of jumping but eventually turned on his left-side and continue walking along the edge of the leaf. :)
